The ultimate way to experience cinema at home is to use a projector for that big screen experience. Images can be projected in excess of 300″ . The size of the image will depend on the type of projector and the room size: we can advise you and give you a good indication of the maximum image size you are likely to achieve.

Projectors can be mounted on a shelf at the back of the room, wall mounted, or the best option is to ceiling mount them. Short throw projectors can be positioned as little as 50cm from the screen while still producing a super large image.

Projection screens can be ceiling or wall mounted, and come either as a manual pull down or a motorised system that you control via IR remote. The size of the screen will be dependent on the size of your room and the ability of the projector to fill the space at short range.

LCD Projector

LCD projectors use a miniature optical system to divide concentrated lamplight into primary reds, greens and blues for delivery through three LCD panels. A sophisticated image processing system then analyses the beams on a pixel-by-pixel basis and merges them into the final projected image. LCD projectors are available in resolutions from 480p to 1080p HD and right up to 4K UHD.

DLP Projector

Originally developed by Texas instruments DLP (Digital Light Processing) projectors create an image through a series of many thousands of tiny vibrating mirrors governed by a microchip. The image is projected onto a screen by a lamp inside the mechanism which shines through a colour wheel. DLP projectors are available in resolutions from 480p to 1080p HD and right up to 4K UHD. 

Brightness

The brightness of projectors is rated in lumens. The higher the lumen value, the higher the potential brightness of the image. How and where the projector is to be used determines the type and brightness of projector needed. When used in a small room and projecting on a small screen, an LCD or one-chip DLP projector with a lumen rating of 1,500 to 3,000 will give a good image. In large venues using larger screens, or when ambient light may affect the image, a three-chip DLP projector with a lumen rating of 10,000 to 28,000 should be used. 

Lenses

Different types of lenses are available. If the projector is to be placed close to the screen, a short-throw lens may be needed. If the projector will be at the back of a room or in a large arena far away from the screen, a long-throw lens may be necessary. Distance from the projector to the screen and screen size must both be considered.

Installation

Surveying the location of the potential installation is recommended before buying any projector or screen. It is important to take measurements of the room to determine the maximum screen size and the brightness of the projector required.
